WSU Pandemic Plan

WSU has in place an all-hazard Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) which addresses responsibilities and actions taken in the event of a major event or disaster that will affect the campus. The EOP will be a guide in decisions with regard to an avian flu outbreak and any other pandemic that may afflict Utah and/or WSU.         pandemic_image.jpg

The plan in PDF format can be downloaded here.

The "Concept of Operations During a Pandemic Threat " document can be found here.

Emergency Operations Plan

Weber State University’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) outlines a strategy to cope with hazards that threaten the campus, as well as the concept of operations and management of critical resources in response to potential emergencies. It defines the role and responsibilities of departments, divisions and agencies on and off campus that are vital to help protect life and property.   Download Here (PDF)... Campus Watch PDF Print E-mail

campus_watch_logo.pngCampus Watch is a program designed to enlist every member of the Weber State University community- students, faculty and staff- in a cooperative campaign against crime.

As a participant, you will learn personal protection strategies, how to safegaurd your own property against theft and how to help protect your neighbors and coworkers. You'll know how to be a good witness and contact the police when you observe suspicious activities.

Campus Watch relies upon your eyes and ears, and your willingness to report what you've seen. Our greatest challenge is overcoming citizen apathy- our campuses belong to all of us, and we should be involved in keeping them safe.

Knowledge is Power

The Crime Prevention Unit of the WSU Police Department has workshops and literature to educate you about crime dangers. With this knowledge, you can take proactive steps to help reduce crime in our campus community. Some of the Crime Prevention programs available include:

  • Rape Aggression Defence (RAD)
  • Sexual Assault Awareness
  • Workplace Violence
  • Personal Safety Awareness
  • Office Resident Safety
  • Drug Recognition

The Crime Prevention Unit also helps the WSU community prevent crime opportunities through Operation Identification, which enables you to engrave valuables with your drivers license ot other identifying number. Engravers are available at the police department, and an inventory sheet is provided for you to complete. With your help, we will increase public awareness, improve security and reduce the market for stolen property.

You Make the Call

The most effective crime-prevention device ever invented is the telephone- use it! Call the WSU Police Department at 626-6460 to report criminal or suspicious activity. If it's an emergency, such as a crime in progress, dial 911. You can remain anonymous if you wish to do so.

If you don't have a cell phone, emergency phones are positioned throughout the campus next to buildings and in parking lots. The phones ring directly to the WSU Police Department.

We need your eyes and ears in the fight against crime. Report anything out of the ordinary, such as:

  • A stranger loitering in or around the premises
  • Someone "testing" doorknobs as they walk down a hallway
  • People carrying property out of a building, especially at unusual hours
  • Anyone peering into cars, cruising parking lots or tampering with cars
  • Strange vehicles such as large box truck parked next to a building

When your calling, try to:

  • Remain calm.
  • Be observant, call quickly and remain on the line until told otherwise.
  • Relate what happened, where, when and if injuries are involved.
  • Get a description of suspects from head to toe; write it down.
  • Get a vehicle description, license number, direction of escape.

Protect Yourself with Common Sence

It takes only eight seconds for a thief to enter your room and leave with your valuables! More than 90 percent of room and office thefts involve occupants who were "just gone for a few moments". Close and lock your door every time you leave.

Do:

Leave a key with a trusted friend instead of attempting to hide it outside.

When away for an extended time, have a neighbor watch your room.

Lock up your valuables and be sure they can't bee seen fromn outside.

Keep doors and windows locked, especially at night. Most prowlers come through unlocked doors and windows.

Keep a cell phone with you and accessible at all times. Have 911 on speed dial.

Don't

Prop doors open.

Leave notices indicating that you are away.

Give personal information by telephone to a stranger.

Leave your shades drawn when going out during the day; it's a clue no one is home

Open your door to unknown callers or admit a stranger when entering your residence hall or locked university building.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is a landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, that requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses.
